In a phone conversation on Thursday, President Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the latest developments surrounding the MoU and exchanged views on expanding bilateral cooperation across political, economic, scientific, and regional domains.
The call also focused on strengthening coordination for the full implementation of the MoU and ensuring lasting stability in the region.
President Pezeshkian warmly thanked the government of Pakistan for its sincere, responsible, and well-intentioned mediation efforts during a sensitive period. He specifically acknowledged the constructive roles played by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi in facilitating dialogue that led to the initial settlement aimed at ending hostilities.
The Iranian president emphasized that Pakistan’s approach, rooted in goodwill, Islamic brotherhood, and regional responsibility, represented a valuable example of solidarity between the two nations.
President Pezeshkian further expressed hope that the MoU would pave the way for reduced tensions, durable peace, and a new phase of regional cooperation benefiting all nations in the region.
Prime Minister Sharif, in response, welcomed the successful conclusion of the MoU, which he noted was achieved with the involvement of relevant representatives from Iran, the US, and Pakistan. He described the development as an important step toward enhancing regional peace and stability.
Sharif praised the Iranian leadership and people for their patience, resilience, and rational approach throughout the negotiation process. He reiterated that Iran and Pakistan are not merely neighboring states but brotherly nations bound by deep historical, cultural, and religious ties.
The Pakistani prime minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing its role in mediation efforts and supporting future diplomatic initiatives aimed at strengthening regional understanding. He also highlighted Pakistan’s strong interest in expanding cooperation with Iran in science and technology, agriculture, trade, industry, and other areas of mutual interest.
