A series of cooperation documents and decisions were approved and signed during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan, with the participation of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other top officials of member states.
Among the key documents was the Bishkek Declaration marking the 25th anniversary of the SCO, along with a protocol introducing amendments to the organization’s charter. Decisions also covered regulations for a comprehensive center addressing security challenges and threats, as well as an executive committee for combating drug trafficking.
The summit also endorsed measures on translation services, cooperation against drug addiction through 2030, coordinated action against synthetic drugs and precursors, and an action plan for developing ports and logistics centers from 2026 to 2030.
Other initiatives addressed biodiversity conservation and sustainable management for 2026-2031, the establishment of regional centers for data processing and computing capacity, artificial intelligence development, and cooperation on a Green Technology Corridor for 2026-2030.
Lahore, Pakistan, was designated the SCO Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2026 and 2027. Participants also considered a memorandum of understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the African Union Commission, cooperation on international information security, and amendments to regulations governing the honorary title of Goodwill Ambassador.
The agenda further included approval of annual reports by the SCO secretary-general and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), as well as decisions concerning the validity of previous decisions by the Council of Heads of State.
Separate unsigned statements focused on strengthening multilateral cooperation in nuclear and physical nuclear security, energy conservation and efficiency, energy systems, and support for the family institution.
Additional documents included a statement on assistance to governments affected by emergencies and memorandums on climate change, information cooperation among competent bodies, and artificial intelligence cooperation.
