Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev have stressed the importance of strengthening friendship, economic cooperation between Tehran and Baku, helping promote lasting peace and stability and prosperity.
The two presidents held talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, reviewing the developments in bilateral relations and ways to expand bilateral cooperation and trade.
President Pezeshkian thanked Azerbaijan for its supportive positions during the recent conflict, saying helpful and constructive approaches by regional countries demonstrated the importance of solidarity.
He said Iran was ready to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan in economic and commercial sectors, describing the existing potential between the two countries as significant. He stressed that these capacities should be utilized to benefit both nations.
President Pezeshkian also said Iran would withstand external pressure, sanctions and economic restrictions by relying on domestic capabilities and regional cooperation. He emphasized that the will of nations should not be affected by pressure from major powers.
The Iranian president stressed that sustainable regional security and stability could be achieved through cooperation and dialogue among regional countries, relying on their own capacities. He welcomed greater regional cooperation toward this goal.
For his part, President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s support and solidarity with the Iranian people and emphasized the importance of strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
He said Azerbaijan attached special value and importance to its relations with Iran and sought to develop bilateral ties in line with the shared interests of the two peoples.
Aliyev also expressed readiness to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation, stressing the need to utilize existing capacities and create new opportunities for closer interaction.
The two sides emphasized continued consultations and constructive dialogue, stronger bilateral cooperation and use of existing capacities to further develop relations between Iran and Azerbaijan.
