Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz is the result of the act of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran and the continued blockade of Iran’s ports, stressing the need to condemn US maritime piracy.
President Pezeshkian made the remarks in a phone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi on Thursday.
The president emphasized that the current instability in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz stems from recent tensions and targeting Iranian ports and commercial vessels. He called for the ccessation of actions interfering with Iranian shipping, saying such measures violate international maritime norms.
He also referred to recent developments affecting Iran, noting that strikes on public infrastructure, including civilian facilities, had raised concerns about regional stability.
The president warned that escalating pressure in the maritime domain could further complicate the situation and emphasized that any move perceived as heightening tensions would not contribute to regional calm.
President Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s position that the country remains committed to diplomatic engagement aimed at achieving a fair and stable resolution to ongoing issues. He said Tehran is prepared to continue diplomatic efforts provided that all parties avoid escalatory measures and adopt a constructive approach.
Prime Minister Takaiichi, for her part, underscored Japan’s interest in maintaining stable and friendly relations with Iran, highlighting Tehran’s role in regional security. She said continued dialogue could help prevent further escalation and contribute to regional de escalation.
The Japanese premier also thanked Iran for allowing the recent passage of a Japanese vessel through the Strait of Hormuz and expressed hope for the safe transit of other Japanese ships in the future, stressing Japan’s support for secure and uninterrupted navigation in the strategic waterway.
Both sides agreed to maintain ongoing consultations aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation and supporting regional stability.
