Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran’s acceptance of Pakistan’s ceasefire proposal demonstrates a responsible and resolute approach, despite the United States’ repeated violations of commitments and international law.
President Pezeshkian made the remarks in a phone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, noting that the move is conditional on genuine commitment by the opposing parties to negotiations and adherence to their obligations.
The two officials also discussed recent regional developments and efforts to halt the war imposed on Iran by the United States and the Israeli regime.
President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan’s government, particularly Prime Minister Sharif and the country’s army leadership, for their efforts to mediate a ceasefire.
The Iranian president also condemned several ceasefire violations, including attacks on the Iranian islands of Lavan and Siri, warning that Iran would respond firmly to any aggression.
President Pezeshkian added that insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf is a direct consequence of military actions by the US and the Israeli regime, stressing that stability in the vital waterway depends on ending such attacks.
The president said Iran has presented the outline of its 10‑point plan as a framework to halt the war, stressing that a key condition of the proposal is establishing a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Prime Minister Sharif, for his part, expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians, thanking Tehran for accepting Pakistan’s mediation toward a ceasefire agreement.
He further emphasized the need for all sides to respect the ceasefire and called for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, while reaffirming Islamabad’s readiness to cooperate with regional countries to promote peace and stability.
