President Masoud Pezeshkian said that a security agreement signed between Iran and Iraq in 2023 guarantees stability in both countries and foils enemies’ plots to destroy regional peace.
“The full implementation of the agreement guarantees security and stability in the two countries, especially in border areas”, Iran’s President Pezeshkian said, adding that the full implementation of the Tehran-Baghdad security pact will also foil enemies’ plot to destroy regional peace.
“The agreement has so far resulted in good achievements, and I hope that its full implementation continues in the future as well”, Pezeshkian said on Wednesday at a joint press briefing with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani in Baghdad.
The Iranian president hailed his visit to Muslim neighboring country of Iraq, which he said is his first foreign trip taking place before his attendance in the 79th UN General Assembly session later in the month.
“I am pleased to have come to Iraq before attending the UN General Assembly so that I review with my brothers in the government of this country the agreements previously made and we sign 14 new cooperation documents”, he said.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran wants an independent, powerful, and strong Iraq and has always sought to develop friendly and brotherly relations with a calm, safe, and developed neighboring country”, he noted.
Referring to the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza, Pezeshkian expressed hope that the regime’s crimes are halted through the strengthening of unity among Islamic countries.
He also criticized Western states for their double standards regarding human rights issues amid their continuous support for the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestinians, which the president described as the most unprecedented against humanity.
Western countries provide the Zionists with the most destructive weapons, but they surprisingly accuse Palestinians of terrorism when they defend themselves, Pezeshkian said, expressing hope that Muslims can forge unity in the face of attempts against their countries.
