President in a meeting with Japanese PM's special envoy:

We welcome deepening Tehran-Tokyo/Stressing facilitating Iran-Japan banking relations/US policy of humiliation, intimidation not fruitful/Iran demands stability in East Asia, resolving issues through dialogue

Resident Rouhani met with the Japanese Prime Minister's special envoy and welcomed bilateral ties and cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo, adding: "Today, there are good potentials for investment and promotion of cooperation between the two countries and the Japanese private sector and companies can work in Iran's various sectors, such as oil, gas, petrochemicals, dam construction and ports development".

In the meeting that was held on Wednesday in Tehran, Dr Rouhani mentioned relations between the two countries during the past 90 years and continued: "Development of southern ports will have important, effective role in deepening relations between the two countries and Japanese investors and businesspersons can invest in developing rail network and ports in Iran".

The President added: "Facilitating banking relations between Iran and Japan can contribute to developing relations and economic cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo".

Describing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) an important international agreement, the President appreciated Japan's positive role in the negotiations between Iran and P5+1 and said: "Today, after the conclusion of the negotiations and the implementation of the JCPOA, we should not let this significant agreement to be distorted and any of the parties to the agreement get out of their commitments".

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always lived up to its commitments based on reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said Rouhani adding: "The US government has not fully lived up to its commitments".

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will never be the first one to violate the agreement but will respond properly to the lack of commitment of the other side," the President added.

He also went on to say: "Stability and security in the region and East Asia are very important for Iran and we hope that development of cooperation between Iran and Japan contribute to development of stability and security in East and West Asia".

He continued: "All issues must be settled through discussion and dialogue and there must not be any threatening and intimidation by another country against others".

Dr Rouhani described encouragement to dialogue and ending arms race in the region as of high importance and said: 'We are against sanctions against countries and we believe that the policy of intimidation of humiliation that the US government has taken up towards other countries will never be fruitful".

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort contributing to stability and security in the region," the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran added.

He also said that people in countries such as Iraq, Syria and Yemen need help, and said: "Iran is ready to cooperate in transferring Japan's humanitarian help to the people of these countries".

The Japanese Prime Minister's special envoy Masahiko Kōmura also delivered the Japanese PM's written message to Dr Rouhani and congratulated him on his re-election, adding: "We must attempt to deepen economic and business relations between the two countries more than before in various fields of mutual interest".

Describing Iran's commitment to JCPOA as a source of trust among the countries of the region, he said: "Iran has always played an effective role for peace and stability in the region and we believe that all negotiating countries must live up to their commitments".
