Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the need for strategic planning to expand bilateral relations and tap into the existing capacities of Iran and India to boost economic cooperation.
Iran and India agreed to pursue stronger economic ties as President Pezeshkian met his Indian counterpart Droupadi Murmu on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi on Saturday.
The Iranian president said Tehran has always supported peace and security in the region, adding that the Islamic Republic had faced military aggression by the US and the Israeli regime but was not the aggressor and had stood against the enemies’ bullying.
President Murmu emphasized India’s determination to deepen and expand relations with Iran. The Indian president said she had instructed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pursue stronger bilateral ties in line with existing plans.
She noted that the Iranian president’s visit to India, the first in eight years, was significant for New Delhi. She also described the BRICS summit as an opportunity to deepen relations among participating countries.
