President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran’s participation in the BRICS summit in New Delhi produced important results, including stronger support for multilateralism, trade in national currencies, opposition to unilateral sanctions, and condemnation of attacks on nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure.
President Pezeshkian said the 11-member BRICS group held discussions with 10 countries seeking membership, while Iran’s delegation focused on presenting the Islamic Republic’s positions and pursuing the summit’s goals of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. He added that participants broadly supported efforts to create a multipolar world and increase countries’ ability to withstand pressure.
The president said cooperation among BRICS members covered economic, political, security and trade issues. He also highlighted his meetings in India, including talks with the Indian prime minister and president, saying both sides agreed on expanding cooperation and humanitarian ties. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar were tasked with following up on related arrangements.
President Pezeshkian said he also held talks with the heads of state from Malaysia, South Africa, Ethiopia and Egypt, as well as brief discussions with the presidents of Russia and China. He described his first post-war meeting with the Abu Dhabi crown prince as constructive, saying both sides agreed to leave the past behind and work toward a cooperative future.
According to the Iranian president, the BRICS final statement condemned attacks on nuclear facilities and civilian infrastructure and called for restraint, respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity in the Middle East. Members also opposed unilateral sanctions and coercive measures, supported Iran’s accession to the World Trade Organization, and backed expanded trade using national and regional currencies.
He also said that reforming global governance and financial institutions, opposing occupation, supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, condemning Israeli aggression, creating a nuclear-weapon-free region and combating terrorism without double standards were also reflected in the summit discussions.
President Pezeshkian criticized unilateralism and disregard for international law and humanitarian principles by powerful states. He said no country should use military, technological or economic superiority to impose its will on others, adding that BRICS policies could help counter such pressure.
According to President Pezeshkian, economic talks addressed banking cooperation and the New Development Bank. The president said discussions with economic ministers created promising opportunities for investment, financial exchanges and broader economic cooperation, while Foreign Minister Araghchi continued diplomatic follow-up on the summit’s outcomes. He thanked Iranian officials and media teams for their important efforts throughout the summit.
