Iran deeply distrusts US due to betrayal of diplomacy: President Pezeshkian

On Wednesday, President Pezeshkian and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi discussed recent regional developments and efforts to halt the war during a phone call, with both sides emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and de‑escalation.

During the conversation, the Iranian president said the Islamic Republic remains deeply distrustful of the United States due to Washington’s repeated betrayal of diplomacy and its military action against Iran during nuclear negotiations.

He also outlined the dimensions of the recent military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran, calling it a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law.

President Pezeshkian said Tehran’s decision to accept a ceasefire reflects the Islamic Republic’s commitment to diplomacy and its responsible approach toward peace and stability in the region.

He added that Iran has conveyed the outline of its 10‑point plan to the United States as a framework for establishing a ceasefire and ending the war.

Pezeshkian also said the insecurity affecting the region and the Strait of Hormuz is a direct consequence of military actions by the United States and the Israeli regime.

He noted that measures taken by Iran in the waterway are based on international law and are intended to prevent aggressors from exploiting the strategic passage to launch attacks on Iran.

For her part, the Japanese prime minister expressed regret over the loss of Iranian lives and damage to civilian facilities during the conflict.

She also stressed the need to reduce tensions as quickly as possible, describing the ceasefire and halt to fighting as a positive step toward achieving lasting peace in the region through diplomacy.
