Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized that Islamic countries have the capacity to resolve their differences through dialogue and cooperation without foreign intervention, calling for greater unity and solidarity among Muslim nations.
Meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its constructive role in negotiations that led to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, saying Iran remains ready to implement the accord if the other side fulfills its commitments.
He also expressed appreciation for the participation of the Pakistani prime minister and his high-ranking delegation in a ceremony honoring the martyrs of the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
President Pezeshkian stressed that lasting peace and security cannot be achieved without cooperation and solidarity among regional countries, noting that foreign intervention undermines these efforts.
Peace and security must prevail throughout the region, regardless of religion, sect or ethnicity, President Pezeshkian said, emphasizing that people should not be involved in war, violence or conflict.
Welcoming the Mecca Agreement (security pact signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey), the Iranian president said Iran had always believed that unity and solidarity among Islamic countries would prevent the Israeli regime from easily attacking Muslim nations. He expressed hope that other regional and Islamic countries would join the process and expand cooperation in defense, political, economic and cultural fields.
He said Islamic countries possess sufficient capacity to resolve their internal disputes through dialogue and cooperation without relying on foreign intervention.
Pakistan stresses shared responsibility
Prime Minister Sharif praised President Pezeshkian’s sincerity and commitment to dialogue. He said increased diplomatic exchanges, consultations and coordination between Iran and Pakistan in recent months had produced positive results.
Referring to regional tensions and insecurity, Sharif said the turmoil had created difficulties and concerns not only for regional nations but also for millions around the world. He called for greater cooperation and coordination among regional countries to end the situation.
Iran and Pakistan are two brotherly countries and have a responsibility to work for peace, prosperity and happiness for their peoples and the nations of the region, Sharif said.
The Pakistani prime minister also clarified that the Mecca Agreement is defensive in nature and is not directed against any country, stressing that its objective is to promote regional peace and security and protect the interests of regional states.
Prime Minister Sharif praised President Pezeshkian’s views on Muslim unity, saying he fully agreed with the Iranian president’s emphasis on closer cooperation among Islamic countries. He added that most people around the world currently support Iran and expressed hope that dialogue and agreements would help establish peace and security across the region.
