Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon have emphasized the deep historical, cultural and civilizational bonds between their nations and called for expanding bilateral cooperation across political, economic, scientific and cultural fields.
President Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with President Rahmon on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, stressing that relations between Iran and Tajikistan go beyond conventional diplomatic ties.
He said the friendliness shared by the peoples and officials of the two countries provides a valuable foundation for further developing bilateral relations.
President Pezeshkian congratulated his counterpart on Tajikistan’s Independence Day and expressed appreciation for the Tajik president and his high-ranking delegation attending a ceremony to pay tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He also thanked Tajikistan for its principled, firm and supportive positions toward Iran, saying bilateral relations are currently at a very good level, but existing capacities offer considerable room for further expansion.
The Iranian president said Tehran was ready to pursue without reservation any initiative aimed at strengthening political, economic, scientific, cultural and other forms of cooperation with Tajikistan.
Referring to agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries, President Pezeshkian stressed that Iran would seriously pursue their precise and effective implementation, ensuring that no shortcomings occur on the Iranian side.
President Rahmon, for his part, highlighted the longstanding historical, cultural and civilizational ties between Iran and Tajikistan. He said the two countries possess significant potential for expanding cooperation and should make greater use of their existing capacities.
The Tajik president called for continued exchanges of diplomatic delegations and efforts to remove obstacles hindering bilateral cooperation, particularly in transportation, trade and other economic areas.
He also stressed the importance of expert meetings within the framework of the Aryan Civilization and among countries of the Nowruz cultural sphere, describing them as opportunities to strengthen cultural interaction and historical ties among regional nations.
He said Tajikistan supports comprehensive, just and sustainable peace and expressed his wishes for peace and stability for Iran.
President Rahmon added that the Iranian people, as creators of civilization and culture, need no advice, expressing confidence that they would overcome current challenges with wisdom, prudence and their rich historical experience.
