Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that he remains committed to his election promise of removing internet restrictions, saying that the government is seeking to remove the bans through creating common understanding in order to prevent possible disputes.
“We stick to the words we have said and make effort to put them into practice”, the president told reporters on the sidelines of a parliament session he attended to present next year’s budget plan.
The minister of information and communications technology has collected the required information on lifting the existing internet restrictions, President Pezeshkian said, adding that a report on the collected information was read out at the latest meeting he held with the judiciary chief and the parliament speaker this week.
It was decided that the Judiciary and Majlis (the Iranian parliament) present their reports as well in order to make a decision at the next stage, Pezeshkian explained.
Referring to the existing internet restrictions, the president said that the process does not benefit the country, and that it needs to be corrected.
In order to current the process, the government is trying to progress its work through creating common understanding to prevent possible disputes, Pezeshkian said.
