President at the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Armenia:

Iran welcomes developing ties with Armenia in energy, rail transit, culture, environment/Iran seeks deepening relations with EAEU/Protecting Aras region's environment essential/Terrorism a dangerous virus for region

Referring to opportunities and capabilities of Iran and Armenia, President Rouhani stressed that the two countries' authorities should use the opportunities for developing and deepening ties in all fields.

Speaking at the meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Armenia on Wednesday in Yerevan, Dr Rouhani referred to amicable and historical relations between the two countries, saying: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to develop ties and cooperation with Armenia in various fields such as energy, transit, and cultural, scientific and research cooperation".

"Iran and Armenia can cooperate in the field of railway and connect Iran to the Black Sea through the Persian Gulf, as well as North-South corridor," said President Rouhani.

He also mentioned and emphasised cooperation in the field of energy, including increasing Iran's gas export to Armenia, as well as the third line of electricity transfer.

He went on to stress further developed economic and commercial ties between Iran and Armenia, adding: "To deepen economic ties, including technical-engineering cooperation, we should attempt to develop and facilitate banking relations between the two countries".

Referring to Aras Free Zone newer the border of Iran and Armenia, he also said that the zone can contribute to better ties and protecting the environment.

He also mentioned the opportunities and capabilities of Iranian and Armenian private sectors, and continued: "The Islamic Republic of Iran seeks to develop ties and relations with the members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), aiming at free trade".

On Karabakh, President Rouhani said: "We welcome negotiation between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as two friend and neighbouring countries of Iran, in this regard with a win-win approach to reach a solution which is fair, stabilising and fruitful for the people of both countries".

He also described terrorism as a grave threat to the region and a dangerous virus, emphasising that Iran and Armenia should cooperate in eradicating the scourge from the region.

At the same meeting, the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan also said: "There is no obstacle on the way of promoting the level of ties and cooperation between the two countries and we are determined to further deepen trade, economic and cultural ties".

We are determined to develop ties with Iran, said President Sargsyan adding: "We seek to increase economic interaction and banking relations with Iran".
