President in a meeting with his Russian counterpart:

Tehran welcomes Russian companies' investment/Iran continues its effective participation in SCO/We welcome deepening economic ties with Eurasia in free trade framework

Presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation described relations between the two countries developing in all fields and stressed the importance of further development of bilateral and regional cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.

President Hassan Rouhani met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia on Saturday evening and said: "Relations between the two countries are developing in the field of energy swap, defence and transit, and there are ample potentials for development of cooperation, and Tehran welcomes Russian companies and private sector's investment".

In the meeting that was held on the margins of the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in China, Dr Rouhani described SCO an effective organisation for security and development of the region, saying: "Iran will continue its effective cooperation in this organisation".

Dr Rouhani said: "Russia joining the North-South Rail Corridor will create great opportunities for economic cooperation with the East," stating that Iran welcomed development of economic relations with the Eurasia region within the framework of free trade.

Referring to Russia's important role in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the president stated: "Iran has lived up to its commitments based on IAEA reports, and after the unilateral and illegal withdrawal of the United States, Moscow plays an important role in strengthening the implementation and fulfilment of obligations by the other sides".

Dr Rouhani noted the continued importance of Iran-Russia multilateral cooperation in the area of ​​security and development of regional cooperation and said: "Iran-Russia cooperation in fighting ISIS and other terrorist groups in the region has been fruitful and this collaboration will continue".

The President also expressed appreciation for the good planning of Russia to host the World Cup and hoped that the games would be held well and successful.

The Russian president emphasised that Moscow would continue to cooperate with Iran in economic, energy swap and defence fields, and described the two countries' relations developing in all areas and said: "There is a good outlook for cooperation in all fields, including economy".

Stating that the joint commission of cooperation will plan the upcoming meeting, Vladimir Putin highlighted Russia's interest for participating in the North-South Corridor transit project, adding: "Moscow backs Iran's membership and its permanent free trade agreement with Eurasia".

He went on to point out that the US withdrawal was unilateral and unlawful, and underscored: "Moscow will continue to talk with other parties to support the JCPOA".

The Russian president also noted Iran's permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and said: "Iran has been a good partner to the SCO for many years as an observer state, and Russia's position is to support Tehran's full membership in the organisation".

Putin emphasised Iran-Russia cooperation to consolidate stability in the region, and said: "Regional cooperation, including on the issue of resolving the Syrian crisis, will continue".

He also announced that the Week of Persian Language will be held in Russia in the near future.

Russian president also expressed satisfaction with the presence of the Iranian national football team in Russia, expressing hope to have a good World Cup.
