Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Islamic countries to strengthen unity, expand regional cooperation and adopt coordinated positions to address security challenges, saying their shared resources and capabilities could help establish a model of justice and development.

President Pezeshkian calls for greater unity, cooperation among Islamic countries

Speaking at a meeting in Tehran on Monday with Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and Türkiye’s intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, President Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to support any understanding that promotes solidarity, security and development among Muslim nations.

He stressed that Islamic countries should prioritize their common interests and religious and cultural ties to resolve differences and prevent external threats from undermining regional stability.

President Pezeshkian condemned Israeli atrocities in Gaza, Lebanon and other parts of the region, saying the escalation had also reached Iran and resulted in the assassination of Iranian top officials, commanders, scientists and schoolchildren. He called for a coordinated response by Islamic countries to aggression and insecurity.

The president said regional nations should translate political agreements into practical measures, including expanding transport links, facilitating cross-border exchanges and strengthening cooperation among universities, scientific institutions and businesses.

Closer economic, cultural and scientific ties, he added, could improve public welfare while contributing to collective security and reducing the conditions that allow terrorism and instability to spread.

President Pezeshkian also reiterated that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons and intends to pursue its nuclear activities within the framework of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). He said the country’s right to peaceful nuclear activities should be respected under international rules.

Criticizing attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities alongside calls for negotiations, he described such approaches as contradictory and damaging to trust.

He further urged Islamic countries to resist policies that deepen divisions or weaken regional states, arguing that closer economic cooperation could help them address domestic challenges and withstand external pressure.

President Pezeshkian said Iran was committed to expanding cooperation with Muslim countries based on mutual interests, respect for national rights and shared religious ties. He expressed hope that joint efforts would help end Israeli acts of aggression against Palestinians and other affected populations and pave the way for lasting peace, security and justice across the region.
