Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for a clear framework and a time-bound action plan to strengthen relations with Georgia.
At a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on the sidelines of the leaders’ summit of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Yerevan on Friday, President Pezeshkian emphasized the need to translate growing economic, cultural and tourism ties between the two countries into practical cooperation.
The Iranian president said Tehran and Tbilisi needed transparent frameworks and a timetable for implementing joint initiatives, adding that the two sides should work to expand bilateral engagement in concrete ways.
Addressing US sanctions against Iran, President Pezeshkian described the measures as contrary to humanitarian principles and criticized recent attacks on Iran as unjustifiable and inhumane.
He emphasized that Iran was not seeking nuclear weapons, rejecting false propaganda against the country. The president also said Iran had always been ready for dialogue but would not submit to pressure.
Kobakhidze, for his part, said Georgia maintained clear positions toward neighboring countries and opposed any foreign intervention in their domestic affairs.
Pointing to the two countries’ geographical and cultural ties, the Georgian prime minister said friendship and cooperation should guide bilateral relations.
He expressed hope that coordination between the two countries’ foreign ministries and diplomatic services would help identify common ground in economic cooperation and tourism.
