Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for a long-term strategic plan to expand cooperation with Armenia in trade, mining, the economy, tourism and culture, saying stronger bilateral ties could contribute to regional stability and security.

President Pezeshkian urges long-term strategy to deepen Iran-Armenia economic cooperation

President Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the sidelines of the leaders’ summit of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Yerevan on Friday.

He stressed the need to develop a comprehensive framework for long-term cooperation and translate existing agreements and initiatives into practical results. President Pezeshkian said the two countries were determined to broaden their engagement across various fields and expressed hope that ongoing efforts would produce tangible, lasting outcomes.

The Iranian president said closer relations between Tehran and Yerevan would help strengthen stability and security across the region.

Addressing US sanctions against Iran, President Pezeshkian said the Islamic Republic would continue to maintain and expand its international relations by relying on its people and coordinating with neighboring states.

He also criticized Washington’s sanctions policy, arguing that it was creating difficulties not only for Iran but also for the wider international community. Continuing along this path, he warned, would worsen conditions globally, urging the United States to pursue dialogue based on reason rather than coercion.

Pashinyan, for his part, highlighted Iran’s cultural heritage and historical ties with the region, reaffirming Armenia’s commitment to peace and stability. He said Yerevan was working to expand relations with neighboring countries on the basis of mutual development.

The Armenian prime minister described trade and economic cooperation with Iran as significant, identifying energy as an area with considerable untapped potential.

He said Armenia would seek to further strengthen cooperation in the energy sector, alongside broader efforts to deepen bilateral economic ties.
