Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on his birthday during a phone call on Wednesday, with the two heads of state reaffirming their commitment to maintaining and strengthening strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.

Iran, Russia presidents reaffirm commitment to deepening strategic ties

In a phone call with President Putin on October 7, President Pezeshkian wished his Russian counterpart good health and a long life, while expressing hopes for continued prosperity, growth and success for Russia and its people. 

 

The Iranian president said bilateral relations were progressing favorably and stressed the need to sustain and expand cooperation across various fields, describing the continuation of the partnership as being in the mutual interests of both countries.

President Putin thanked President Pezeshkian for his birthday greetings and good wishes, and expressed hopes for peace, security, prosperity and success for the Iranian government and people.

The Russian president said cooperation under the Treaty on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation was continuing despite ongoing developments and events in the region.

President Putin also praised the Iranian people’s historic and courageous resistance to attacks by their adversaries, saying Iran’s bravery had drawn attention and admiration in many parts of the world.

He further referred to diplomatic efforts by some countries to mediate and help ease tensions, saying Russia supported such initiatives and was ready to contribute to efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

President Putin stressed the importance of maintaining close communication and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow and conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
