President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Iran’s national team for winning the 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026) for the third consecutive time and securing five gold medals.
In a message on Sunday, President Pezeshkian described the achievement, earned in competition with more than 320 students from 66 countries, as a source of pride and joy for the country.
He said the success demonstrated the scientific potential and talent of Iran’s younger generation, who have competed internationally through knowledge, dedication and perseverance.
President Pezeshkian stressed that the achievement also carries a responsibility to provide greater support for talented students and ensure equal opportunities for their academic and professional development.
He said young scientists should be given the conditions to apply their knowledge and capabilities not only to further international success, but also to scientific development, national progress and improving people’s lives.
The president congratulated the students, their families, coaches and professors, as well as the Young Scholars’ Club and all those involved in the country’s education system. He also expressed appreciation for their efforts in preparing the team for the international competition.
President Pezeshkian said he hoped the championship would mark the beginning of greater achievements for the young participants and inspire future generations to pursue science and contribute to building a more developed Iran.
The 19th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2026) is held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September 25 to October 5, 2026.
