Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have stressed the need to deepen bilateral cooperation and maintain diplomatic consultations to promote peace and stability in the West Asia region.
President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Sharif met on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly to discuss the latest developments in Tehran-Islamabad relations, the implementation of previous agreements and understandings, and major regional developments.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the progress of bilateral ties and agreements reached during reciprocal visits by senior officials, emphasizing the need to continue following up on and effectively implementing those commitments.
President Pezeshkian highlighted the deep historical, cultural and religious ties between the two nations, describing Iran-Pakistan relations as stable and rooted in broad commonalities. He stressed Iran’s determination to expand bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
He also welcomed continued contacts and consultations between officials of the two countries, saying sustained interaction could accelerate the implementation of agreements and advance the shared interests of Tehran and Islamabad.
The Iranian president further appreciated Pakistan’s principled approaches and coordinated efforts in support of regional peace, stability and security. He stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic consultations and initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and preventing regional crises from expanding.
The two sides also exchanged views on ongoing regional developments and their implications for peace and security. Discussions covered the Strait of Hormuz, developments in the Arabian Peninsula and other issues related to regional security.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed concern over the continuation of conflicts and rising tensions in the region, emphasizing the need to reduce tensions and strengthen diplomatic channels toward lasting peace and stability.
Referring to the importance of implementing the Islamabad understandings, hd said Pakistan was ready to continue playing a constructive and sincere role in supporting regional peace and stability.
