Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed that the Palestinian issue will remain a central pillar of Iran's foreign policy, telling Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Khalil al-Hayya that Tehran will continue supporting the Palestinian people and back decisions made by Palestinian leaders during ongoing negotiations.
During a phone conversation on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian congratulated al-Hayya on his appointment and expressed hope that his new role would contribute to serving the Palestinian people and residents of the Gaza Strip.
The president also paid tribute to Palestinians martyred in the Israeli-imposed conflict, particularly former Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, whose martyrdom was a cowardly crime committed by the Israeli regime during a visit to Tehran.
President Pezeshkian praised the resilience of the Palestinian people, saying Iran's government and nation stand alongside Palestinians and will continue providing support to the greatest extent possible.
He also commended al-Hayya's efforts to promote coordination among Palestinian groups, stressing that Iran would support any initiatives or decisions adopted by Palestinian leaders in the course of negotiations.
Referring to recent regional developments, including attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iranian territory, President Pezeshkian said the Palestinian issue remains a constant priority in Tehran's foreign policy despite regional challenges.
He described Palestine as the foremost issue facing the Islamic world and called for greater unity and cooperation among Muslim countries to safeguard shared interests.
Al-Hayya, for his part, thanked Iran for its continued support for the Palestinian people and said Palestinians would remain committed to their national aspirations despite ongoing military operations and pressure.
He also described Haniyeh's martyrdom as a symbol of solidarity within the Islamic world and praised Iran's handling of regional developments.
The Hamas official also said the Palestinian resistance movement was coordinating its political negotiations with other Palestinian factions and would seek to prevent the Israeli regime from achieving through diplomacy what it had failed to accomplish on the battlefield.
Al-Hayya expressed hope that closer consultation with Iranian officials during negotiations would help advance Palestinian interests and voiced optimism about the future of the Axis of Resistance.
