President Pezeshkian has reaffirmed Iran’s adherence to international legal norms, asserting that while the nation is pursuing its rightful interests, the record of US negotiations necessitates a cautious and highly vigilant approach.

President Pezeshkian: Iran seeks legitimate rights, remains wary of US track record

In a meeting with Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan General Asim Munir in Tehran on Saturday, President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s contributions to regional stability, describing the people and officials of Pakistan as friends of the Iranian nation.

The president clarified Iran’s position, noting that Iranian authorities are simply seeking to secure the legitimate and legal rights of their nation. He also warned about Washington’s track record in previous rounds of talks.

Iran’s historical experience with the Americans dictates that Tehran must exercise the utmost caution, Pezeshkian noted, citing recurring violations of commitments, hostile actions during negotiations, and the assassination of Iranian officials as sources of deep public distrust.

President Pezeshkian further asserted that war serves no party’s interest except that of the Israeli regime, which seeks to exploit regional chaos for its own gains.

He emphasized that the US will not emerge victorious from such conflicts, while regional countries will bear the heavy burden of the fallout. Despite this, Pezeshkian reiterated that the Islamic Republic, while relying on its brotherly relations with friendly nations like Pakistan, remains engaged in diplomatic efforts solely to protect the national interests of the Iranian people.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the president advocated for practical measures to deepen economic, cultural, and political ties with Muslim nations particularly Pakistn, noting that strengthening cooperation among Islamic nations is the most effective way to eliminate the roots of regional conflict.

In response, General Munir conveyed the warm regards of Pakistan’s leadership and expressed optimism regarding the current trajectory of negotiations.

The general praised President Pezeshkian’s perspective and warned that the Israeli regime actively seeks to sow discord among Muslims.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional stability, expressing hope that ongoing talks would yield swift and favorable results for Iran and the wider region.
