Iran president questions US authority on nuclear rights, calls for international justice

During a visit to Iran’s Ministry of Sports and Youth, President Pezeshkian commented on recent statements by US officials, saying that no nation should be deprived of its lawful rights under international frameworks. He argued that all people, regardless of background, are entitled to their fundamental rights and called for fair and just treatment of all nations in the international system.

The president criticized double standards in global policy debates, noting that claims related to human rights and democracy should be evaluated in light of actions affecting civilians in the region. He questioned the adequacy of international responses, saying relevant global organizations often limit themselves to expressions of concern.

Referring to attacks on civilian sites and reported casualties, President Pezeshkian stated that such actions lack justification. He added that some individuals abroad who identify as Iranian appear to defend narratives inconsistent with the realities faced by the country.

The president reiterated that Iran seeks regional peace and stability and has not initiated conflict. He emphasized that the country’s actions are presented as self defense and warned against portraying Iran as pursuing escalation. He also praised the Iranian Armed Forces for their role in national security, marking Army Day and acknowledging the resilience of military personnel.

President Pezeshkian said the performance of Iran’s defense forces has surprised observers, while attacks on civilian infrastructure by adversaries reflect the failure of those efforts.

He also stressed domestic cohesion and regional cooperation, stating that Iran has no territorial ambitions and views neighboring states as partners, adding that strengthened collaboration can prevent external actors from creating divisions in the region.

The president said athletes should proudly reflect Iran’s spirit in global competitions, noting many already do so. He described national unity as essential, urging Iranians everywhere to support the country’s territorial integrity.
