Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev held a phone conversation on Sunday evening to discuss the latest regional developments and bilateral relations.

Iran, Azerbaijan presidents hold phone talks

During the call, President Pezeshkian thanked Aliyev for visiting Iran’s embassy to offer condolences over the martyrdom of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as many civilians killed in recent aggression. He also expressed appreciation for Azerbaijan’s intention to provide humanitarian assistance to Iran.

The Iranian president stressed that the reported aerial incident in Nakhchivan had no connection to Iran, adding that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

President Aliyev reiterated his condolences for the loss of numerous Iranian civilians in the recent incidents and underscored the importance of investigating the Nakhchivan incident.

The two presidents also exchanged views on prospects for expanding joint economic projects.
