Iran committed to swift implementation of strategic partnership treaty with Russia: President Pezeshkian

Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev and his delegation in Tehran, President Pezeshkian described Iran–Russia relations in the current phase as highly distinctive and expanding, welcoming the accelerating pace of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.

The president said he has held multiple meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin since taking office, noting that all discussions resulted in key strategic decisions serving the shared interests of both nations and opening new horizons for bilateral ties.

President Pezeshkian underlined Iran’s firm resolve to operationalize the strategic cooperation document, saying implementation across agreed sectors, including transportation, energy, oil and gas, agriculture, food products, and defense and security cooperation, is progressing at a satisfactory speed.

The president also said he personally monitors the implementation process on a weekly basis, adding that Iran’s ministers of oil, agriculture and energy have been tasked with closely following up and accelerating joint commitments.

Pezeshkian highlighted the completion of transit and corridor projects as a key driver for deeper cooperation, expressing hope that expanded Iran–Russia ties would yield lasting positive effects on the regional economy. He also said regional countries should strengthen relations to the extent that external actors are no longer needed to intervene in regional affairs.

In response, Tsivilev conveyed President Putin’s greetings to his Iranian counterpart and described the outcomes of the 19th Iran–Russia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission as positive.

He also reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to maintaining and expanding strategic relations with Tehran, stating that no party will be able to undermine the strategic relations between Iran and Russia.
