President Masoud Pezeshkian has instructed Iran’s diplomatic apparatus to examine and prepare the groundwork for possible negotiations, provided they are conducted in an appropriate atmosphere and within the framework of national interests.
In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said the directive follows requests by friendly regional governments for Iran to respond to a proposal by US President Donald Trump to hold talks.
The president said he had ordered Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to pursue the matter only if conditions are free from threats, coercion, and unreasonable expectations, and if negotiations can be held in a fair and equitable manner.
Pezeshkian stressed that any potential talks must be based on the principles of dignity, wisdom and expediency, and remain strictly within the framework of Iran’s national interests.
