Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that strengthening and deepening relations between Iran and Kazakhstan will benefit both nations and the wider region. He also underscored the importance of a unified perspective among regional countries to preserve the ecological balance of the Caspian Sea.
In an interview with Kazakhstan's Kazinform International News Agency, the Iranian president noted that while trade between Iran and Kazakhstan is growing, the target of achieving $3 billion in bilateral trade has yet to be met. He stressed that enhancing political connections and facilitating easier visa processes are crucial steps to achieving these trade goals. He proposed that increased political and cultural exchanges would pave the way for more effective collaboration.
Regarding Iran's official membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), President Pezeshkian expressed optimism about the opportunities this would create. He explained that Iran's large market, with a population of nearly 90 million, presents significant opportunities for businesses. The removal of tariffs within the EAEU framework could greatly benefit trade and industry between the two countries, he added.
The president also discussed the importance of a new logistics terminal in southern Iran, which he said will enhance the International North-South Transport Corridor. By improving rail links from Kazakhstan to Iranian ports, both nations can facilitate smoother economic and cultural exchanges, ultimately benefiting their mutual interests.
On environmental issues, President Pezeshkian highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to maintain ecological balance in the Caspian Sea. He stated that a common understanding among the coastal nations is essential for preserving the marine environment and ensuring sustainable economic activities. He called for experts to engage in discussions aimed at fostering a unified approach to environmental challenges.
In the fields of medicine and biotechnology, Pezeshkian noted that Iran has made significant advancements and is eager to share its expertise with Kazakhstan and other Islamic nations. He believes that strengthening scientific collaboration can lead to mutual benefits in health and technology.
The Iranian president recognized Kazakhstan's strategic position as a developing nation along the Silk Road, which can serve as a hub for cultural, scientific, and economic exchanges. He underscored the importance of leveraging existing platforms such as the EAEU and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to enhance cooperation.
In response to a question about Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President Pezeshkian praised his extensive political experience, noting his capabilities as a former speaker and foreign minister, which equip him to effectively address regional issues.
