President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday inaugurated the eastern part of the Tehran-Shomal (North) Freeway in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh and other officials.
This section of the freeway stretches from the Dowab area of Shahrestanak to the southern entrance of the Alborz Tunnel, featuring 16 tunnels that span 11.7 kilometers, along with 12 bridges totaling 1.35 kilometers. Remarkably, this segment constitutes 75% of the entire route.
Additional features include 155 surveillance cameras, 80 ventilation fans, and 6,800 tunnel projectors, alongside comprehensive systems for lighting, ventilation, information dissemination, and video monitoring.
Studies indicate that the new section will allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour, saving approximately 7.5 million liters of fuel annually.
Furthermore, this project is expected to reduce travel times, lower road accidents, and create direct employment for over 2,500 individuals.
