President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of enhancing regional diplomacy to foster economic development in Ilam Province.
During a meeting with economic players in Ilam on Thursday, President Pezeshkian announced plans to engage with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to address the root causes of border issues along the Iran-Iraq border and to tackle challenges affecting trade exchanges between the two nations.
He highlighted the need for Iranian officials to prioritize consultations with Iraq’s trade minister to eliminate obstacles hindering trade at border crossings. Additionally, he urged Ilam Governor General Ahmad Karami to collaborate with Iraqi officials to facilitate coordination.
President Pezeshkian also advocated for the establishment of a specialized working group to monitor financial and trade matters in the border region. He addressed the agricultural potential in Ilam, calling for effective measures to identify suitable lands and water resources to enhance agriculture in the province.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to addressing local challenges, he stressed the importance of closely monitoring border markets and holding specialized meetings with those who are active in economic and tourism sectors.
Furthermore, the president pointed out that despite US pressures on Iran, Ilam Province, with over 400 kilometers of shared borders with Iraq, possesses significant trade potential that does not rely on dollars for financial transactions, indicating that Iran cannot be easily sanctioned.
