President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian underscored the significance of a unified language and policy among member states of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
In a meeting with Secretary General of OPEC Haitham al-Ghais in Tehran on Wednesday, President Pezeshkian emphasized the need for shielding OPEC from political maneuvering.
The president highlighted that the exchange of experiences and achievements as well as collective management of oil market are essential areas for the cooperation among the OPEC members.
Pezeshkian expressed his belief that the member states should ensure their actions do not adversely affect others, noting that a unified approach would prevent the United States from exerting pressure and imposing sanctions on OPEC members.
OPEC secretary general, for his part, commended Iran’s constructive role within the organization, stating that as one of the organization's founders, the Islamic Republic played a positive role in this organization.
Al-Ghais further said that enhanced cooperation would be benefit the future of member states, citing the recent rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia as a development that has strengthened OPEC's influence in the market.
