President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian said that preserving natural resources is a red line for his government, emphasizing the importance of economic development alongside protecting those resources.
"Protecting the environment and paying attention to it is among basic indicators of development in any country,” the president said at a cabinet session on Sunday, adding that natural resources should not be harmed under any circumstances.
"Preserving natural resources is among our red lines; government officials and governor generals must protect natural resources in all circumstances”, he noted, adding that the government will not allow the construction of factories in and near forests and green spaces.
Further in his remarks, President Pezeshkian referred to the appointment of new governor generals for Ardabil and Golestan provinces.
He advised both provincial officials to consider people’s interests in any decision and measure they take, emphasizing that serving people and attracting their satisfaction is the main goal of the government.
Pezeshkian also said that Golestan and Ardabil are two border provinces and have numerous capacities for economic development. Therefore, he added, border trade in those two provinces should be paid special attention.
During its Sunday session, the cabinet approved the appointment of Masoud Emami and Ali-Asghar Tahmasbi as new governor generals of Ardabil and Golestan provinces respectively.
