Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored that the Islamic Republic, in addition to handling internal affairs, needs to improve regional and international ties and resolve foreign tensions in a bid to pursue the development of the country.
"For the development of the country, in addition to organizing internal affairs, we must improve the country's international relations, resolve tensions, and create a better environment for interactions and exchanges with regional and world countries," the Iranian president said on Tuesday in a meeting with the country’s former foreign ministers in Tehran.
"In the short period since the 14th government took office, we have made significant efforts to address some issues and challenges in foreign policy. Currently, our relationships with neighboring countries are favorable, and we have also reached agreements during meetings and discussions”, he said.
Since taking office in late July, the 14th government officials have held 95 rounds of meetings and discussions with officials of other countries, which have yielded good results, he explained.
He also referred to his meetings and discussions as well as the consultations of officials from various sectors with Chinese and Russian counterparts with the aim of speeding up the implementation of mutual agreements and developing relations.
Pezeshkian mentioned negotiations with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the country’s eagerness to expedite the development of the Chabahar Port project.
He said that his government seeks development of ties with all countries around the world, including European nations.
Negotiations with the European countries are ongoing, but the Israeli regime is trying to create disruptions and complicate issues by its recent acts of mischief, he added.
Pezeshkian also made comments on Iran’s stance towards the United States.
“Whether we want it or not, we will face this country in regional and international arenas, and it is better for us to manage it ourselves”, he said, adding that his government will ultimately move forward with foreign policy issues within the framework of the strategies and major approaches of the Islamic system.
