Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday issued four key directives aimed at paving the way for developing the coastal region of Makran located in the southeastern Province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan.

President Pezeshkian issues key directives on development of Makran region

The directives call for strengthening Makran’s economy, providing the necessary infrastructure in its energy sector with a focus on renewable energy, accelerating the completion of regional transportation corridors in cooperation with international partners, as well as attracting and concentrating domestic and foreign investment in Makran.

The president put them forward at a meeting on reviewing sea-based development plans, which was the second such meeting held in recent weeks.

He said that the general plans already presented for the development of Makran require fundamental changes, arguing that the region is due to be introduced as a new model of development and an economic and political hub of Iran.

Therefore, he added, any plan regarding this strategic region’s development must be drawn up in accordance with that vision.

"We are determined to achieve optimal development in this region, as it is a priority set by the Supreme Leader and a basic need of the country. To expedite its development process, we may even hold some government sessions in this region”, Pezeshkian said.
