Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said that it will never matter to the Islamic Republic who becomes president in the US, adding that this is because Iran relies on its internal strength.
“It will never matter to us who wins elections in America. That’s because our country and system rely on their internal strength with a dignified and great nation”, he said on Wednesday evening, hours after Donald Trump won the US presidential election held a day earlier.
Pezeshkian was addressing a gathering of officials in charge of his presidential campaign.
He also said that his government will not have a limited mindset in developing relations with other countries, adding that expanding ties with Islamic nations is a priority of the government’s foreign policy.
“We have prioritized the development of relations with Islamic and neighboring countries, and we are deeply committed to fostering unity and cohesion among Islamic nations”, President Pezeshkian said.
He added that if all countries in the Islamic world had been united, the Zionist regime would not have dared oppress the innocent people of Palestine and Lebanon in the way that it is doing now.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the president referred to the political reforms that have been implemented for the first time, including the appointment of governors and senior managers from all ethnicities, religions, and genders under his government.
He called those reforms great achievements, which he said took place under the slogan of national unity and through cooperation of all governing bodies, as well as the “special attention” of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Pezeshkian also said that change does not take place overnight, and that time is needed to make more reforms.
