While appointing Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif to the position of Vice President for Strategic Affairs, the president gave him a mission that in order to prevent the addition of new structures and organisations and the optimal use of existing capacities, he also assume the responsibility of the Presidential Center for Strategic Studies and turn the duties and special tasks of this center into a suitable department of the Presidential Department for Strategic Affairs.
Appointing Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif to the position of Vice President for Strategic Affairs, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian stated, "By taking advantage of the accumulated experience of the country's top managers in the past decades and the extensive scientific, specialised and practical capabilities of the elites, think tanks and civil society institutions, report the macro developments domestic and international and the degree of success in achieving the goals of the constitution, the vision document and the general policies approved by the Supreme Leader of the Supreme Leader directly to me".
Dr Pezeshkian's letter of appointment reads:

Dear Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif,
Based on the 124th article of the constitution and considering your merit levels and valuable management experiences of the academic and executive records, I hereby appoint your Excellency to the position of "Vice President for Strategic Affairs".
It is expected that by taking advantage of the accumulated experience of the country's top managers in the past decades and the extensive scientific, specialised and practical capabilities of the elites, think tanks and civil society institutions, report the macro developments domestic and international and the degree of success in achieving the goals of the constitution, the vision document and the general policies approved by the Supreme Leader of the Supreme Leader directly to me.
In order to prevent the addition of new structures and organisations and the optimal use of existing capacities, assume the responsibility of the Presidential Center for Strategic Studies and turn the duties and special tasks of this center into a suitable department of the Presidential Department for Strategic Affairs. It is obvious that in order to implement the duties of this department, government agencies and institutions will provide the necessary cooperation.
