The President called the cooperation documents signed between Iran and Turkmenistan a manifestation of the will of the two countries' high officials for the development of political, economic, cultural and civilizational relations, and said, "Tehran and Ashgabat have good relations, but we don't consider this level of relations enough and believe that this level can be promoted to much more than the current state".
Speaking in a joint press conference with the Chairman of the People's Expediency Council of Turkmenistan on Tuesday night, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi called the cooperation documents signed between Iran and Turkmenistan a manifestation of the will of the two countries' high officials for the development of political, economic, cultural and civilizational relations, and said, "Tehran and Ashgabat have good relations, but we don't consider this level of relations enough and believe that this level can be promoted to much more than the current state".
The President described the existence of common borders between the two countries as an opportunity for more cooperation and called his meeting with the Chairman of the People's Expediency Council of Turkmenistan constructive.
Dr Raisi also referred to the ground for cooperation between the two countries in the field of water and electricity exchange, and transit and transportation, among others, as the issues that were discussed in today's meetings and said that the operationalisation of these agreements can be beneficial for the two nations and also regional states.
Referring to the agreements between the two countries for cooperation in the framework of regional and extra-regional organisation, saying, "In addition to bilateral cooperation, the cooperation between the two countries in regional and extra-regional organisations was among the other decisions that were made in the negotiations and we are determined to continue this cooperation, including in Shanghai Organisation".
Confirming the positions of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow about the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in securing peace, stability and security in the region, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always looked at regional issues based on strengthening peace, stability and security".
Referring to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution's view of the kinship relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan, described the visit of the Chairman of the People's Expediency Council of Turkmenistan to Iran as a turning point in securing the interests of the two nations.
In this joint press conference, the Chairman of the People's Expediency Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow appreciated the invitiation of the Islamic Republic of Iran for a visit to Tehran, describing the relations between the two countries brotherly and friendly, based on civilisational common grounds.
Berdimuhamedow described the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran based on global development and peace, and stressed the strong support of Turkmenistan for this positive approach, thanking Iran's support for independence and impartial policy of Turkmenistan.
