Continuing cooperation with Persian Gulf neighbours one of Iran’s basic policies/We call for atmosphere of moderation, rationality among countries

President Rouhani spoke with the Emir of Qatar on Saturday and underscored Tehran’s willingness to develop ties with all countries around the world, especially its neighbouring countries.

In the phone call that was initiated by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Dr Rouhani also said: “There are ample grounds and potentials for developing Iran-Qatar cooperation in political and economic fields and we should make the best use of them to promote relations”.
Congratulating the holy month of Ramadan, the President said: “Continuing cooperation with neighbouring countries, especially the Persian Gulf neighbours, is one of Iran’s basic policies and we believe that we can remove the obstacles and strengthen brotherly bonds by firm resolve from the both sides”.
Dr Rouhani also stressed that the stability and security of the countries of the region are bound together, adding: “We call for the rule of moderation and rationality in relations between countries and believe that political solutions must be the top priority”.
“The countries of the region need more consultation and collaboration for resolving regional crises and we are ready to cooperate in this regard,” he continued.
Describing sectarianism as a great plague to the security of the region, Dr Rouhani said: “We want the Islamic World, which is suffering from division, to take steps towards peace and brotherhood and, in this regard, we are ready to negotiate to reach a real agreement”.
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also went on to say: “Our region is witnessing a great problem named terrorism that can threaten our security and the way to combat it is cooperation”.
The Emir of Qatar also congratulated the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, saying: “Our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are historic and firm and we are willing to further strengthen these relations”.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also said: “We believe that there is no obstacle on the way of deepening Iran-Qatar relations”.
Referring to regional issues, he said: “Negotiation and dialogue are the only way of resolving regional issues”.
