President in a meeting with Pakistani parliament speaker:

All potentials must be used for deepening Iran-Pakistan ties

President Rouhani met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Ayaz Sadiq and stressed that the potentials and capabilities of the two countries must be used to develop relations.

At the meeting that was held on Monday in Tehran, Dr Rouhani added: "Iran and Pakistan have ample common interests as two neighbouring and brother countries".
"The Islamic Republic of Iran has been alongside the Pakistanii nation in the past 70 years," he continued.
The President also went on to say: "Without a doubt, increasing interaction and relations between the authorities and officials of the two countries can be effective in increasing relations and developing ties".
He continued: "There are myriad potentials and capabilities for development of Tehran-Islamabad ties, which have not been used well and we should attempt to make the best use of them".
Iran is ready to supply Pakistan's energy demands, said Rouhani adding: "Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline is now near Pakistan's border and we hope that the Pakistani side attempt to finalise the project  more seriously".
Stating that Chabahar and Gwadar ports complement each other, he continued: "These two ports can bring good developments for the two countries and the region".
He also referred to the borders between the two countries and stressed the need to continue the process of securing the borders.
"Today, the region is grappling with the scourge of terrorism and all countries must join hands and cooperate in combating it".
Ruling out the effectiveness of  apparent coalitions in fighting terrorism, President Rouhani said: "Countries that have supported terrorists such as Taliban, Al-Qaida, and ISIS for years by providing  money and weapons for them cannot claim to have been fighting them".
At the same meeting, the Speaker if the National Assembly of Pakistan said: "Today, terrorism, especially Taliban and ISIS are gaining strength in the region and we should cooperate more in confronting them".
He also stressed further development of relations between the officials of the two countries and added: "Developing ties between Chabahar and Gwadar ports is very important for deepening economic relations between Iran and Pakistan".
