Having close relations with neighbours, Tehran's policy/We seek stronger economic ties with preferential tariffs

President Rouhani left Tehran for his three-leg Asian tour, aimed at visiting Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday.

Dr Rouhani, who is visiting the three countries as the head of a high-ranking economic and political delegation, was seen off by the First Vice-President, Dr Jahangiri, and International Affairs Adviser to the Supreme Leader, Dr Velayati.

He is set to meet with the presidents of Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The high-ranking delegations will then meet and cooperation documents will be signed to further develop and deepen ties between Iran and the three countries.

Before leaving for Armenian capital, Yerevan, President Rouhani said at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran: "Having closer ties with neighbouring countries is one of Iran's policies and is very important with regard to both economic and national security fields".

Referring to Iran's neighbours in Central Asia and the Caucasus, he added: "Visiting Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan is taking place in response to official invitations and the three countries' presidents' visit to Tehran".

Stressing the importance of deepening and cementing ties with the three countries, he said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to provide these countries with technical and engineering services and participate in projects in them," mentioning that currently, dozens of Iranian companies are operating in the three countries.

"We seek stronger economic ties with these countries with preferential tariffs and free trade," said the President, referring to the three countries' membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran's close ties with the union.

Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are a part of Iran's corridor to the West, East and North, said Dr Rouhani adding: "We will gain access to Europe and the Black Sea through Armenia, and to the northern and eastern countries through Kazakhstan. Also, China is seeking to connect its railway to Tajikistan, Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran through Kyrgyzstan".

"Due to the fact that these countries being located in Iran's corridor of north and China, they very important for us," he continued.

Stating that these visits will significantly contribute to discussions about issues such as unity, regional issues, terrorism and insecurity, he said: "Cementing ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the three countries in the United Nations and other international communities is beneficial to our country".

He went on referring to common cultural and civilisation bonds between Iran and Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Dr Rouhani added: "We hope to witness further developed cultural ties in this visit".

The President went on referring to his accompanying economic and commercial delegation and said: "Iran's economy is seeking to implement the policies of Resistive Economy and Article 44 of the constitution", giving a more active role to the private sector.

President Rouhani will visit the Armenian capital, Yerevan on the first leg of his three-leg Asian tour.
