Violating fundamental freedoms in Imam Reza’s (AS) shrine shameful/Are those infiltrated in Khorasan Razavi’s sensitive centres trying to clear path for extremism?/We hope judiciary head issues order for addressing the incident swiftly

In reply to parliament’s Deputy Speaker, Dr Ali Motahari’s letter regarding the incident in Mashhad which led to cancellation of his speech, President Rouhani ordered Ministers of Justice and Interior to address the issue.

Tue 22 - November 2016 - 08:35

President’s order is as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful,

Dr Rahmani Fazli,

Honourable Minister of Interior,

Hojjatoleslam val-Muslemin Pourmohammadi,

Honourable Minister of Justice,

Hello and peace be upon you

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Dr Ali Motahari, a member of parliament who exercises exceptional freedom and courage of speech, gave a shocking report about something which happened especially in a holy city that is a stronghold and refuge not only for every single Iranian, but also for all Shias and Muslims across the globe, where our country is honoured to be safeguarded by the Eighth Imam (AS). Very unfortunately, by the year Mashhad has been introduced as the cultural capital city of the Islamic world, actions are being witnessed that are far away from that great Imam’s (AS) teachings and ideals. Are those infiltrated in Khorasan Razavi’s sensitive centres trying to clear path for extremism and bipolar division by shutting mouths and blocking the roads to speech venues? Do they think that they can block the roads to our country’s progress and development which is emphasised by the people and the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei?

The attorney general of our country’s spiritual capital city should support such enlightening speeches about Imam Hussein’s (AS) movement, especially one delivered by an educated figure who is the heir of a prominent figure, Martyr Motahari (RA).

What happened in Mashhad city is shameful. The Ministry of Interior of the Government of Prudence and Hope is responsible towards the Iranian nation and defend their basic rights, especially the knowledgeable and brave people of Mashhad who had a great role in the last presidential election, which marked the victory of moderation.

The honourable Judiciary Branch is expected to prevent explicit crimes and support freedom of speech based on the constitution and confront insincerities in implementing the law. We hope that the Head of Judicial Branch issue an order to swiftly addressing the incident and report the results to the people so that they can feel confident about legal action against violation of fundamental freedoms.

It is necessary that you emphasise that the Governor General of the province, as the head of the security council of the province, and other members of the council fully cooperate with the police and security authorities, as they are responsible to maintain lawful gatherings and support freedom of speech and are responsible before the Supreme National Security Council.

I demand both ministries to perform their inherent duties and fully address the issue and submit a report on the violators and those who neglected their duties and introduce them.
