Tehran determined to deepen ties with Moscow in all fields/Developing banking ties accelerates economic cooperation/Iran, Russia regional cooperation to continue until terrorism eradication

Russia is an important friend and neighbour of Iran in the region and the two countries have common interests in the region and the world, said President Rouhani in a meeting with the Chairman of Russian Federation Council, Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko.

In the meeting that was held late on Monday, he said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to develop ties with the Russian Federation in all fields”.

“Developing parliamentary relations will further cement Tehran-Moscow ties,” Dr Rouhani added, saying: “Ties between Iran and Russia are in their best condition in recent decades and we should tap the post-JCPOA opportunities to strengthen these ties and cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, science and technology”.

On cooperation between the two countries in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, Dr Rouhani said: “The role of Russia in the nuclear agreement was constructive and, today, Moscow can play a key role in helping other sides to live up to their commitments”.

“Along with banking relations, facilitating customs issues and visa issuance can accelerate commercial ties between the two countries,” he added.

Dr Rouhani continued: “We should help accelerate the implementation of agreements made between the two countries in all fields”.

Referring to Russian companies’ cooperation in the field of energy in Iran, the President said: “Iran is ready to boost cooperation in this field”.

“Universities of both countries can cooperate in various fields such as aerospace and nuclear sciences and new technologies,” he continued.

Referring to terrorism in the region and the world, President Rouhani said: “Strategic cooperation between Iran and Russia in the field of combatting terrorism will continue in the region until terrorism is eradicated”.

“Terrorist groups are a threat to the whole region and the world and we should continue cooperation to eradicate terrorism and help bring back stability in Syria and let the Syrian people to decide for themselves,” Dr Rouhani added.

At the same meeting, the Chairman of Russian Federation Council, Valentina Ivanovna Matviyenko also said: “There has been a great development in ties between the two countries in all fields and the parliaments of both countries should do their utmost in putting the two governments’ agreements into action”.

Stating that Moscow seeks ways to develop ties with Tehran, she continued: “The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has given a broader horizon for the two countries’ relations and cooperation”.

“Russian companies, especially those in the field of energy are willing to come to Iran and cooperate in projects,” she added.

On terrorism, she said: “Tehran-Moscow cooperation in combatting terrorism is very important to us and the members of the Russian Federation Council will do whatever they can to develop ties between the two countries in all fields, especially in combatting terrorism”.
