Tehran, Ankara determined to resolve regional crises, combat terrorism in Syria, Iraq

President Rouhani met with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and stressed that Iran will always stand by its friend and brother country, Turkey.

“We are ready to develop ties with Ankara in all fields and sectors, such as transportation, industry and energy,” said President Rouhani on Tuesday evening, local time in New York on the sidelines of the 71st United Nations General Assembly at United Nations headquarters.

He added: “The private sectors of both countries should be supported more”.

“We consider Turkish government and nation our brother and Tehran is determined to deepen ties with Ankara in all fields,” continued Dr Rouhani.

On the latest coup in Turkey, he said: “Insecurity and coup in Turkey against a government that is in office based on people’s votes was very upsetting for us and, from the first moment, Iran did all it could to restore stability and security in Turkey”.

He also said that the coup was the result of the chain of events going on in the region that are triggered by some powers in the region, adding: “We have no doubt that we can work together to impede the enemy in the path they have designed against us”.

Dr Rouhani also referred to terrorism and its threats to the region and the world and said: “Terrorism is a threat against all of us and the two countries have a significant role in fighting terrorism and insecurity in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq”.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also appreciated Iranian government and nation for supporting Turkey in the recent coup and added: “We are certain that Iran will not cut its support in the following processes”.

Stressing that others are not able to resolve regional issues, he said: “Iran and Turkey are two Islamic and great countries in the region and can work together to create a process in dealing with crises and create stability in the region, especially in Syria and Iraq”.
