President arrives in Venezuela

President Rouhani arrived in Venezuela minutes ago in order to take part in the 17th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement.

Upon his arrival at Margarita Island, Dr Rouhani was received by Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela at the airport.

President will address the 120-member NAM Summit as the chairman of the summit and hand over the presidency to Venezuela.

President Rouhani also is set to meet and confer with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in a couple of hours.

The two-day NAM Summit will be held on Saturday and Sunday with the theme of ‘Peace, Sovereignty and Solidarity’.

In addition to addressing the summit, Dr Rouhani will meet with a number of heads of states attending the 17th NAM Summit.

Dr Rouhani is also set to visit Cuban capital Havana on an official invitation from the President of Cuba in order to attend bilateral Tehran-Havana negotiations. He is also scheduled to meet with the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, negotiate with the President of Cuba and sign cooperation documents between the two countries.

As the last part of his American tour, President is scheduled to depart for New York to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly, meet with a number of high-ranking officials of countries around the world and have meetings with political and economic elites and leaders of different religions.

President Rouhani is being accompanied by Head of Presidential Office and Chief of Staff Dr Mohammad Nahavandian, a number of his deputies and also cabinet ministers.
