Post-JCPOA good opportunity to deepen Tehran-Canberra ties/Stressing development of Iran-Australia economic, cultural relations

Post-JCPOA era provides us with a good opportunity to develop Tehran-Canberra relations, said President Rouhani while receiving credentials of the new ambassador of Australia to Tehran on Sunday.

In the ceremony that was held on Sunday, Dr Rouhani received Ambassador Ian David Grainge Biggs’s credentials and said: “Despite their friendly political ties, the two countries have not been able to use the common capacities in economic fields”.

“The two countries should attempt to develop and deepen their economic and commercial relations within the framework of common national interests,” he continued.

He also expressed hope that ties develop in all economic, scientific and tourism fields, as well as interaction between the people of the two countries.

Mentioning worrying reports on the conditions of the asylum-seekers in Australia, Dr Rouhani also said: “We hope Australia treats the refugees within the framework international regulations and this is important to all of us with regard to humanistic views”.

On the need to fight terrorism in the region and the world, Rouhani also said: “Terrorism is a global issue and combatting it depends on collective and international cooperation”.

After presenting his credentials to President Rouhani, Ambassador Ian David Grainge Biggs said: “We are happy that we have always been by your side and currently there is a good opportunity for development of ties between the two countries”.

He also said that Australian Trade Minister will visit Tehran and added: “This is a good opportunity for the people of the two countries to increase interaction”.
