President Rouhani after signing of Tehran-Baku cooperation documents:

Iran, Azerbaijan determined to develop ties in all fields/Caspian Sea, the sea of peace, friendship, development among shore countries/Stressing territorial integrity of all countries, esp. Azerbaijan

“The two nations and governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are firmly determined to develop and deepen ties in all fields of mutual interest,” said President Rouhani in a joint press conference with the President of Azerbaijan on Sunday in Baku.

Appreciating the Azerbaijani people and government for the warm hospitality, Dr Rouhani said: “During the past three years, ties between the two countries has been developing rapidly and good steps have been taken to deepen Tehran-Baku ties in all fields”.

He added: “Today the high-ranking delegations of the two countries discussed boosting trade cooperation and decreasing customs duties”.

On development of banking relations between the two countries, Dr Rouhani also said: “In this regard, a memorandum of understanding was signed by heads of the central banks of the two countries”.

President Rouhani went on mentioning an automobile manufacturing project and added: “This project will lead to manufacturing of 10,000 automobiles a year to supply Azerbaijan’s domestic needs and also that of the other neighbouring countries”.

Caspian Sea is the sea of peace, friendship and development among countries located on its shore, said Dr Rouhani, adding: “We also discussed the legal system regarding the Caspian Sea and the two countries have agreed to make more attempts in this regard”.

Stressing territorial integrity of all countries, especially Azerbaijan, President said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that peace and stability should prevail in the region and discords among countries should be settled through discussion and dialogue”.

He added: “As a country sharing borders with the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always tried to solve issues through discussion and will spare no effort in doing so”.

Dr Rouhani also said that the officials of the two countries discussed the dangers of terrorism and violence for the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and the entire world and agreed to promote Islam as a religion that is against violence.

“I hope the trilateral meeting of Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia, as their first trilateral meeting, is a big step for development of ties among the three countries and the whole region,” he continued.

During the joint press conference, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also said: “The Republic of Azerbaijan has always been against unjust sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran and we are happy that lifting of the sanctions has prepared the ground for the development of ties between the two countries”.
