He also referred to the significance of Turkey to the Islamic Republic of Iran and said: “Peace and stability in Turkey contributes to peace and stability in the whole region and we have no doubt that some big powers and terrorists do not want to Islamic countries to have stability”.

“It is our duty to feel responsible for stability and security of our neighbouring countries and friend Islamic countries, as we do for our own stability and security”.

He added: “This incident was a test for you to identify your domestic and foreign friends and enemies”.

President Rouhani also underscored joint efforts by all countries of the region to combat terrorism and said: “We should all join hands for stability and peace in the region, combat terrorism and rid the region of these evil groups”.

During the telephone conversation, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan thanked Dr Rouhani for making the call and said: “Mortars and tanks may lead to martyrdom of a number of people but cannot destroy causes of a nation”.
