Regional issues should be solved through discussion, without foreigners involved/Stressing accelerated development of Tehran-Baku bilateral, regional cooperation

President Rouhani met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and underscored fostering Tehran-Baku ties comprehensively, using all capacities available.

In this meeting that happened late on Thursday on the sidelines of the OIC Summit in Turkey, Dr Rouhani underlined the serious resolve by both sides to develop ties in all fields and expressed hope for witnessing accelerated development of ties between Iran and Azerbaijan.

He also emphasised the implementation of existing agreements between the two countries in order to create the necessary groundwork for cooperation between the entrepreneurs and the private sectors of the two countries.

On the need to solve the regional disputes and issues through discussion without foreigners being involved, he also said: “Attempts should be focused on maintain the cease-fire in Karabakh region”.

He added: “All countries of the region should stand together to fight against terrorism, extremism and violence as a collective and regional threat”.

In this meeting, President Ilham Aliyev also referred to close and friendly relations of the two countries and said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of Azerbaijan’s best and closest friends and neighbours and there is a very bright horizon before the two countries’ relations”.
