President stress Iran's commitment to int'l obligations

President Hassan Rouhani in a meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been and will be committed to its international obligations.

In this meeting which was held late on Monday, he stressed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), should focus on its other legal duties and responsibilities along which monitoring all countries' nuclear activities, particularly with regard to its activities related to the transfer of advanced peaceful nuclear technology and nuclear safety.

He also said that IAEA should treat all its member countries equally and impartially.

Dr Rouhani described settlement of Iran's nuclear program issue as the most important example in the history of contemporary diplomacy and said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to cooperate with the IAEA and will still be committed to its obligations regarding the content of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as long as the other party also keeps its commitments.

President stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been and will be committed to peaceful nuclear activities and said: "Even if one day the NPT, safeguards and supervision by the International Atomic Energy Agency does not exist, we religiously and morally feel committed not to deviate towards production of WMDs".

Dr. Rouhani went on to remind the International Atomic Energy Agency's responsibilities and also the duties of members countries, and added: "As the statute of the Agency defines its activities as monitoring nuclear activities, it should also help to transfer advanced peaceful nuclear technologies to other countries as well".

President added that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a member of IAEA, is committed to its obligations based on the rules of the Agency; in so doing, it also expects the agency to support it to be an active member in the field of technologies and peaceful nuclear industry in the world.

In this meeting, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Yukiya Amano also described JCPOA as a big event and congratulated Iranian people and government on the great success.

He expressed his own and the Agency's commitment to a just, impartial, legal based and nonpolitical approach for the implementation of JCPOA and also expressed his Agency's interest to cooperate with Tehran for further confidence building.

Indicating his full agreement with Dr Rouhani's view on the real responsibilities and impartial and just duties of IAEA, Amano continued: "IAEA is not responsible only for peace making, but it also has some responsibilities with regard to development of peaceful nuclear technology, therefore it has a responsibility to help transfer new technologies from developed countries to developing countries".

He also commented on the security of nuclear activities and said: "The new environment has also created some opportunities to start extensive cooperation between Iran and IAEA as well".
