Target for $500m trade between Iran and Tajikistan/ A work group to form to accelerate implementation of past agreements between the two countries/ Iran to use its capacities, facilities to develop relations with friendly countries

Addressing his Tajik counterpart this morning at a meeting of high-ranking delegations of Iran and Tajikistan, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi stated that relations between the two nations are based on a common religion, culture, language and history of several thousand years, adding, "I hope that my visit to Tajikistan, which is my first foreign trip as President of Iran, will be a turning point and a new chapter in the comprehensive cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe”.

The President praised and appreciated the successful holding of the 21st SCO Summit hosted by the Government and President of Tajikistan.
Welcoming the Tajik President's proposal to increase trade and transfer technical and engineering achievements of the Iranian private sector, Dr Raisi added, "I agree with Your Excellency that a work group should be formed to review the previous agreements so that we can identify and eliminate obstacles and problems facing them”.
Pointing out that thanks to the Islamic Revolution, scientific and technological capabilities in Iran have made great progress and today have brought Iran to an acceptable level of independence and scientific authority, the President said, "The level of economic, trade and scientific interactions between the two countries is not acceptable and we should try to increase the relations between the two countries in these areas as much as possible”.
Ayatollah Raisi stated that the deepening of relations with the countries of the region and neighbours is the priority of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the new era, and specified, "Iran has expanded its capacities and facilities in the field of transportation and its access to open waters to develop cooperation with friendly and neighbouring countries, and the activation of these capacities can play an effective role in deepening friendship and strengthening Iran's interactions with countries in the region”.
In another part of his speech, referring to the developments in Afghanistan, the President said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the only way to solve the problems of Afghanistan is to form an inclusive government and avoid foreign interference in this country. Afghanistan must be run by Afghans and no foreign government should interfere in its affairs”.
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon also described the visit of the President of Iran as a historic trip and said, "The common language, values, culture and history of the people of Iran and Tajikistan is an important factor in facilitating the strengthening of relations between the two countries".
Referring to 160 documents of cooperation between the two countries in recent years, the President of Tajikistan added, "Unfortunately, in recent years the volume of trade between the two countries has decreased to $57 million, but given the existing capacity and the continuation and increase of contacts, meetings and talks between Iranian and Tajik officials, we can aim for $500 million in trade”.
He said, "We hope that the roadmap for the development of relations between the two countries will be finalised as soon as possible and we will be able to pursue the implementation of the goals of this roadmap more quickly by forming an investment council and joint specialised institutions".
Referring to the privileged position and capacities of Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports, Emomali Rahmon said, "Tajikistan is seriously interested in using Chabahar and Bandar Abbas ports through rail and road".
The President of Tajikistan called for the establishment of regular direct flights between the two countries, Iran's participation in oil and gas exploration in Tajikistan, the expansion of scientific and cultural cooperation and the development of tourism between the two countries.
